Sofía Villalpando is a biologist, science communicator and digital producer. She is the founder and producer of The Biologist Apprentice, a website and YouTube channel where she presents biology videos, from curious facts about animal species to the science behind your favorite movies.
She is the producer and host of the new science and storytelling podcast "animalitos & plantitas" where in each episode she tell stories about the origin of different animals, plants and animals.
Sofia's work is well known on YouTube and social medial, and she is considered the first Mexican YouTuber dedicated to talk about science and biology.
Thanks to her work, she has been invited as a speaker, judge, content editor, collaborator, book and platform reviewer; she has been mentioned and interviewed by different national and international websites such as Reporte Indigo, The Washington Post and Wild Media Journal; she has had several appearances on international television such as Mentes Curiosas Interactivo from Panamá and the daily news program Cámara Abierta on Spanish television.
In 2018 she was selected as a fellow for the SMASH (Science Media Awards and Summit in the Hub), event held in Boston, Massachusetts, USA and more recently, in 2021 she was selected as a fellow for the Jackson Wild Media Lab, held in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, being the only representative from Mexico in both events.
Her experience as a professional biologist and science communicator has allowed her to devise new strategies to reach more audiences and raise awareness about our environment, as well as increase science literacy around the world.
